Omnipotent Solvent – DMF Solvent

DMF solvent

DMF solvent has a strong solubility and is called an “omnipotent solvent”. At room temperature, DMF can be completely mixed with water, ether, alcohol, ester, ketone, chlorinated hydrocarbon and aromatic hydrocarbon.

Unsaturated fat hydrocarbon is very solubility in DMF solvent, but the solubility of low-level alkanes in DMF solvent is limited. Other organic compounds soluble in the DMF include alkaloids, amines, N- aniline, organic and inorganic aromatic amines, and aliphatic amine.

DMF (dimethylformamide) has good thermal stability and chemical stability.

In the presence of acid-free, alkaline, and some halogenated hydrocarbons, even when heated to boiling point, it does not break down. Therefore, the quality problem will not be caused by discoloration and acid formation in the process of distillation.

Under appropriate conditions, DMF solvent can form many complexes. The DMF (dimethylformamide) and hydrochloric acid, heavy metal salt, sulfur trioxide, boron fluoride, and phosphorus oxychloride to form stable complex reaction of industrial significance.

DMF molecular weight is very small, the dielectric constant is high, which has the ability of electron giving and forming the complex. These characteristics give it a strong solubility, so its main application is as solvent and extractant.

In the production of films, coatings, fibers, and adhesives, DMF solvent is not only the solvent of vinyl polymers but also the polymerization solvent of these polymers. Since they can all be used as surface coatings, the high solubility of DMF (dimethylformamide) makes it an active component of the varnish remover.
